Summer 2009 = Three Exhibits + 1 Overdue Graduation
I'm no longer at Honfleur Gallery Studios, and have upgraded to a larger home studio where I can work away on both my design and creative art work with zero commute.
I've been working hard getting ready for three exhibits this summer. All of my new work uses ink and gouache on paper. From my most recent artist statement:
My recent work eliminates the preliminary sketch and the excess thought.
Drawing from the photos which document my life and travels, the images I choose tend to guide my work towards nature and human experience, construction and deconstruction, cities and vistas. The meaning of each piece is not set in stone at the starting line, but evolves as I choose photos, placement, line and color. Robert Rauschenberg once said, “The artist merely creates a space for meaning. It is up to the viewer to create meaning out of that space.”
The Exhibits
First, the group 12x12 show goes up Sunday, May 3rd at the Lustine Gallery in Hayattesville, Maryland. The opening event will take place during the Hyattesville Arts Festival on Saturday, May 16th. I have two brand spanking new pieces in this show.
May 10th marks Critical Mass, a one-day-to-evening show at Civilian Art Projects organized by Ten Miles Square. I will have another brand spanking new piece in this exhibit. My work will joined by some big hitters in the D.C. arts scene, including Tim Tate, Michael Janis, and Cory Oberndorfer. Both exhibits feature work under the $200 mark, and are great places to buy new, affordable local art.
Exhibit number three is the huge art extravaganza Artomatic. This is Artomatic's 10th year, and the first time I have participated. Over 800 artists will be showing their wares, and as anyone who has gone in the past knows, this can be quite an overwhelming event. I will be showing a few pieces which I created while at Honfleur, as well as several new pieces.
Stay tuned to Artidae, because I will be expanding the site to create a new section for my newest paintings and drawings before Artomatic's grand opening on May 29th.
The Graduation
In addition to the opening of three exhibits and the creation of many new pieces, this month I will also celebrate my graduation from George Mason University's Masters in Arts Management program. I officially completed the degree in January, but have not "walked the walk," so to speak. So, I will grab a cap and gown and prance around Fairfax on Friday, May 15th.

Artidae Rents Studio Space at the Honfleur Gallery
Starting February 1st, Artidae is setting up
shop at the new Honfleur
Gallery in Anacostia. I will be renting a 12 x 12 foot studio
space in the upstairs of the gallery.
The new gallery was built by the ARCH
Development Corporation as part of their efforts to revitalize
the Anacostia neighborhood. Honfleur has a large gallery space downstairs,
and a smaller gallery space upstairs as well as four artist studios.
The third Saturday of each
month, there will be a gallery opening and open studios. Stop by
on February 24th from 7-9pm for the grand opening! I will be showing
some of my favorite work from the Bugilosophy
series, as well as some new pieces I am working on, which explore
memories of place and object.

President Lynne Venart to Attend Masters in Arts Management Program
in Fall 2006
George
Mason University's Masters in Arts Management (MAM) degree combines
coursework in arts management with 9 credits of internships at DC
area arts organizations. With her Masters degree, Lynne hopes to
gain solid business skills which will allow her to use her experience
in art and graphic design to promote positive social change.
After completing a year in the University of Arizona's MFA Painting
program, Lynne realized her true passion is not just in "art
for the art world", but in using graphic design, art, art education,
and arts experiences to enrich people's lives and as a catalyst
for social change. An active painter and drawer, her passion for
the arts is grounded in community-based arts, activist art, and
the role of graphic design and marketing to promote social causes.
Lynne plans to attend the
Masters program part-time, and continue her graphic design and fine
art work with The Art Monkey LLC and Artidae..
