Art Education in Museums
Tucson Museum of Art (TMA)
From January to May 2006, I was an Education Intern at the Tucson
Museum of Art, working under the supervision of Stephanie Coakley,
Museum Educator.
Fresh Eye
Gallery Education Program
I created a computer-based gallery education program which was placed
in TMA's Fresh Eye exhibit of works from the permanent
collection. The piececontains a photo of each piece of art in the
exhibit, along with a one to three paragraph description of the
artist and the artwork. The home page of the website introduces
the exhibit and the program, and allows users three options: View
All, Browse by Artist, and Browse by Exhibit Section.
Event Flyers
As an intern, I also designed and assisting in the writing of flyers
for various educational programs at the museum, including artist
talks, school tours and childrens' storytime.
Artmaking with Children
at Hospitals
Along with TMA's docents, I visited area hospitals to create art
projects with child patients.
Artmaking with Children
at the Museum
In addition to working with children in are hospitals, I also had
the opportunity to assist with drawing and watercolor classes for
local elementary students. The project
incorporated the history of the museum and the Southwest by having
the students draw and paint one of the museum's historical buildings
and its environs.
